Why we're here

Why we serve Fairfield

Fairfield is a charming town on Connecticut's Gold Coast, and a lot of local life happens outdoors. The town owns more than 1,280 acres of open space, a mix of upland forest, lakes, rivers, salt marsh, wetlands and meadows across inland and coastal Fairfield, with a network of trails open to the public free of charge. Many of those parcels follow the Mill River. Lake Mohegan, about 170 acres in the Mill River watershed, is used for hiking, picnicking and fishing, and the nearby Grace Richardson parcel is enjoyed mostly by hikers. Brett Woods, the largest at about 186 acres, sits in the northern part of town. Our own list of favorite spots also includes Gould Manor Park, with its open grass, pond and walking paths, and the waterfront at Jennings Beach and Penfield Beach.

Local roots

A little about Fairfield

Fairfield's past is still written on its map. Permanent settlement began in 1639, when Roger Ludlow laid out four squares of land divided by five roadways, and that center remains today as the Historic Town Green. Greens Farms and Greenfield Hill were among the first new parishes, formed in the 1720s and 1730s. For nearly 300 years farming carried the town, and by the 1890s Southport harbor was exporting about 100,000 barrels a year, much of it onions bound for New York. Near the shore, Pine Creek Marsh takes in about 77 acres of tidal wetlands, and Penfield Mills, near Ash Creek, offers boating, fishing and a playground. Since 2024 the Conservation Department has been modernizing its trail maps, starting with Lake Mohegan, Brett Woods and Grace Richardson.

Fairfield FAQ

Common questions about Fairfield service.

If your question isn't here, give us a call. We answer the phone.

Do your technicians take the dog waste with them?

No. We securely double- or triple-bag the waste in our scented bags and place it in your trash bin or a designated spot on your property.

Do you clean the entire yard?

Standard pricing covers the entire yard up to 1/8 acre, about 5,500 square feet. Bigger yards are welcome: each additional 1/8 acre is $6 per visit.

Is Spruce Scoop insured?

Yes. Spruce Scoop is fully insured and registered in Connecticut, for your peace of mind and protection in the unlikely event of any incident during our service.

Do you provide service in the winter?

Absolutely. We scoop year-round. In snow we remove all visible, accessible waste, and anything buried under snow or ice is picked up once conditions allow. If weather postpones a visit, we do a full cleanup of everything that built up on the next one.

Can technicians work with dogs in the yard?

We love our furry clients! Friendly dogs can stay outside. For everyone's safety, we ask that aggressive or overly excited dogs be kept indoors while we work.

Do I need to be home when you arrive?

No. Just make sure your gate is unlocked and we can get into the yard safely, and tell us about any entry instructions. We'll handle the rest.

How will I know you've been there?

We text you 10 to 30 minutes before we arrive and again when we're done, and we upload a photo of your closed gate before we leave.

How much does dog waste removal cost?

Pricing depends on the number of dogs, your yard size and how often we visit. Weekly service for a small yard with one or two dogs typically runs $23 to $28 per visit. Get your exact price in about a minute with our instant quote.

Awaiting confirmation: Spruce Scoop is confirming the $23 to $28 range above. Your instant quote shows your exact price.

How often can you come out?

We offer weekly, twice-weekly, biweekly and monthly visits, so you can pick the schedule that fits your dogs and your yard.

Is there a contract?

No. Service is month to month with no long-term contract. To cancel, just let us know at least 7 days before your next billing date.
