Why we're here
Why we serve Hamden
Hamden combines natural beauty, rich history and an inclusive community feel, which makes it a great place for pet owners. The town is known as the Land of the Sleeping Giant, after the ridge that towers over it. The state parks agency describes two miles of traprock mountaintop shaped like the profile of a large man lying in repose, with a distinct head, chin, chest, hip, knee and feet, visible across the state. Sleeping Giant State Park, at 200 Mount Carmel Avenue, covers 1,439 acres and has 40 miles of trails, and its trail system was the first National Recreation Trail in Connecticut. Quarry blasting once threatened the Giant's shape, and that threat spurred the park's preservation. The densely forested mountain is striking in every season and comes alive in the fall.
Local roots
A little about Hamden
With roots dating back to the 1600s, Hamden has kept plenty of open land. The town owns and operates Brooksvale Park, a 500-acre, farm-inspired park with farm animals, an organic vegetable and herb garden, a sugar shack for boiling maple syrup, a bee apiary, recreational fields and hiking trails. The Farmington Canal State Park Trail runs through Cheshire and Hamden as part of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, which crosses Connecticut north to south from Suffield to New Haven along the path of the canal that served the area from 1828 to 1847. Walkers, bicyclists, joggers and strollers share it today. Bassett Park has a dog park of its own, an open space where dogs of all sizes can run and socialize, and it is a favorite among local residents.

Hamden FAQ
Common questions about Hamden service.
If your question isn't here, give us a call. We answer the phone.
Do your technicians take the dog waste with them?
No. We securely double- or triple-bag the waste in our scented bags and place it in your trash bin or a designated spot on your property.
Do you clean the entire yard?
Standard pricing covers the entire yard up to 1/8 acre, about 5,500 square feet. Bigger yards are welcome: each additional 1/8 acre is $6 per visit.
Is Spruce Scoop insured?
Yes. Spruce Scoop is fully insured and registered in Connecticut, for your peace of mind and protection in the unlikely event of any incident during our service.
Do you provide service in the winter?
Absolutely. We scoop year-round. In snow we remove all visible, accessible waste, and anything buried under snow or ice is picked up once conditions allow. If weather postpones a visit, we do a full cleanup of everything that built up on the next one.
Can technicians work with dogs in the yard?
We love our furry clients! Friendly dogs can stay outside. For everyone's safety, we ask that aggressive or overly excited dogs be kept indoors while we work.
Do I need to be home when you arrive?
No. Just make sure your gate is unlocked and we can get into the yard safely, and tell us about any entry instructions. We'll handle the rest.
How will I know you've been there?
We text you 10 to 30 minutes before we arrive and again when we're done, and we upload a photo of your closed gate before we leave.
How much does dog waste removal cost?
Pricing depends on the number of dogs, your yard size and how often we visit. Weekly service for a small yard with one or two dogs typically runs $23 to $28 per visit. Get your exact price in about a minute with our instant quote.
Awaiting confirmation: Spruce Scoop is confirming the $23 to $28 range above. Your instant quote shows your exact price.
How often can you come out?
We offer weekly, twice-weekly, biweekly and monthly visits, so you can pick the schedule that fits your dogs and your yard.
Is there a contract?
No. Service is month to month with no long-term contract. To cancel, just let us know at least 7 days before your next billing date.
