Why we're here

Why we serve Westport

Westport is Connecticut's coastal village, and much of its outdoor life happens near the water or in the town's parks. In the center of town, Winslow Park is a 29.5-acre town-owned park that the Connecticut Trail Finder calls a popular dog walking location. Trails crisscross its lawn and large fields, large pines, spruce, oaks and maples stand scattered across the site, and a small parking lot opens off Compo Road North. On Long Island Sound, Sherwood Island State Park holds 235 acres of beach, wetlands and coastal forest in three sections: Sherwood Point with the 9/11 Living Memorial, an east side with East Beach, the Nature Center and the salt marsh, and a west side with West Beach and forested trails. Let us do the hard work at home so you and your dog can fully enjoy what this town has to offer.

Local roots

A little about Westport

Sherwood Island was Connecticut's first state park, and it almost wasn't a park at all. The state bought the first piece of land in 1914, then faced resistance at every turn from wealthy landowners who objected to a public park in their backyards. After a 23-year land battle, the coastal park with public access became a reality. Westport's shoreline also holds the Sherwood Mill Pond Preserve, at 191 Hillspoint Road on the site of the former Allen's Clam House. When that century-old shellfishing business closed in the late 1990s, the town bought the property, with local residents donating nearly half the funds. Management of the tidal basin goes back to a tide mill built in 1705, and today the pond is home to more than 70 species of birds.

Westport FAQ

Common questions about Westport service.

If your question isn't here, give us a call. We answer the phone.

Do your technicians take the dog waste with them?

No. We securely double- or triple-bag the waste in our scented bags and place it in your trash bin or a designated spot on your property.

Do you clean the entire yard?

Standard pricing covers the entire yard up to 1/8 acre, about 5,500 square feet. Bigger yards are welcome: each additional 1/8 acre is $6 per visit.

Is Spruce Scoop insured?

Yes. Spruce Scoop is fully insured and registered in Connecticut, for your peace of mind and protection in the unlikely event of any incident during our service.

Do you provide service in the winter?

Absolutely. We scoop year-round. In snow we remove all visible, accessible waste, and anything buried under snow or ice is picked up once conditions allow. If weather postpones a visit, we do a full cleanup of everything that built up on the next one.

Can technicians work with dogs in the yard?

We love our furry clients! Friendly dogs can stay outside. For everyone's safety, we ask that aggressive or overly excited dogs be kept indoors while we work.

Do I need to be home when you arrive?

No. Just make sure your gate is unlocked and we can get into the yard safely, and tell us about any entry instructions. We'll handle the rest.

How will I know you've been there?

We text you 10 to 30 minutes before we arrive and again when we're done, and we upload a photo of your closed gate before we leave.

How much does dog waste removal cost?

Pricing depends on the number of dogs, your yard size and how often we visit. Weekly service for a small yard with one or two dogs typically runs $23 to $28 per visit. Get your exact price in about a minute with our instant quote.

Awaiting confirmation: Spruce Scoop is confirming the $23 to $28 range above. Your instant quote shows your exact price.

How often can you come out?

We offer weekly, twice-weekly, biweekly and monthly visits, so you can pick the schedule that fits your dogs and your yard.

Is there a contract?

No. Service is month to month with no long-term contract. To cancel, just let us know at least 7 days before your next billing date.
