Why we're here
Why we serve Guilford
Guilford dates to 1639. That May, the Whitfield company sailed from England to establish a model community, landed at Quinnipiac and negotiated with the Menunkatuck Tribe for land. On September 29, 1639, Reverend Whitfield and five associates bought the land between the East River and Hoadley's Creek. The Guilford Green was laid out in the first division of lands in 1640, Menunkatuck Plantation was renamed Guilford in 1643 after Guildford in Surrey, England, and the first recorded Town Meeting was held in 1646. The town's 2015 Plan of Conservation and Development describes North Guilford, generally the area north of Route 80, as keeping many aspects of a 19th-century rural town, with old houses, fields, farms, rolling hills and Lake Quonnipaug.
Local roots
A little about Guilford
Salt marshes mark the final course of Guilford's rivers into Long Island Sound, and freshwater tidal marshes reach far into the town's interior. As of 2015 the town had protected 6,383 acres of open space, and the Guilford Land Conservation Trust owned 2,785 acres of it, about 44 percent. In 2009 the town bought the 583-acre East River Preserve from the Goss family. The regional trail guide lists about 7.63 miles of marked trails there, running along the East River, the edge of a field, over streams and past glacial erratics, including a section of the New England National Scenic Trail. Farther north, the Northwoods trail network links Bluff Head, the Meyerhuber Preserve and the James Valley Preserve, with seventeen miles of recreational trails.

Guilford FAQ
Common questions about Guilford service.
If your question isn't here, give us a call. We answer the phone.
Do your technicians take the dog waste with them?
No. We securely double- or triple-bag the waste in our scented bags and place it in your trash bin or a designated spot on your property.
Do you clean the entire yard?
Standard pricing covers the entire yard up to 1/8 acre, about 5,500 square feet. Bigger yards are welcome: each additional 1/8 acre is $6 per visit.
Is Spruce Scoop insured?
Yes. Spruce Scoop is fully insured and registered in Connecticut, for your peace of mind and protection in the unlikely event of any incident during our service.
Do you provide service in the winter?
Absolutely. We scoop year-round. In snow we remove all visible, accessible waste, and anything buried under snow or ice is picked up once conditions allow. If weather postpones a visit, we do a full cleanup of everything that built up on the next one.
Can technicians work with dogs in the yard?
We love our furry clients! Friendly dogs can stay outside. For everyone's safety, we ask that aggressive or overly excited dogs be kept indoors while we work.
Do I need to be home when you arrive?
No. Just make sure your gate is unlocked and we can get into the yard safely, and tell us about any entry instructions. We'll handle the rest.
How will I know you've been there?
We text you 10 to 30 minutes before we arrive and again when we're done, and we upload a photo of your closed gate before we leave.
How much does dog waste removal cost?
Pricing depends on the number of dogs, your yard size and how often we visit. Weekly service for a small yard with one or two dogs typically runs $23 to $28 per visit. Get your exact price in about a minute with our instant quote.
Awaiting confirmation: Spruce Scoop is confirming the $23 to $28 range above. Your instant quote shows your exact price.
How often can you come out?
We offer weekly, twice-weekly, biweekly and monthly visits, so you can pick the schedule that fits your dogs and your yard.
Is there a contract?
No. Service is month to month with no long-term contract. To cancel, just let us know at least 7 days before your next billing date.
