Why we're here

Why we serve North Haven

North Haven's landscape runs from rocky high ground down to the marshes of the Quinnipiac River. Peter's Rock is the town's highest point, 373 feet above sea level, and its largest parcel of open space at 220 acres. The view from the summit reaches Sleeping Giant and the Hanging Hills of Meriden to the north, Branford and North Branford to the east, and New Haven harbor to the south. The park's main entrance is off Route 17 at 133 Middletown Avenue, minutes from the New Haven town line, and Peter's Rock is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Local roots

A little about North Haven

Julius M. Hansen Park preserves part of a narrow traprock ridge that runs north from Route 17 into Tyler Mills Park in Wallingford. The Hansen Park section rises abruptly from the valley of the Muddy River to a high point of 190 feet, and the walkable top is roughly 10 to 20 feet wide, with sharp drops on each side and about 2.17 miles of trails. Along the river, Quinnipiac River State Park was created in 1948 from surplus land acquired to build the Wilbur Cross Parkway. A summertime riverside community there grew into year-round homes, but flooding became more frequent and destructive, and in the mid-1970s the state bought the property and removed the homes. The park now covers about 300 acres from Banton Street to Toelles Road, and the North Haven Trail Association welcomes hikers and bird-watchers on its Tidal Marsh Trail along the Quinnipiac.

North Haven FAQ

Common questions about North Haven service.

If your question isn't here, give us a call. We answer the phone.

Do your technicians take the dog waste with them?

No. We securely double- or triple-bag the waste in our scented bags and place it in your trash bin or a designated spot on your property.

Do you clean the entire yard?

Standard pricing covers the entire yard up to 1/8 acre, about 5,500 square feet. Bigger yards are welcome: each additional 1/8 acre is $6 per visit.

Is Spruce Scoop insured?

Yes. Spruce Scoop is fully insured and registered in Connecticut, for your peace of mind and protection in the unlikely event of any incident during our service.

Do you provide service in the winter?

Absolutely. We scoop year-round. In snow we remove all visible, accessible waste, and anything buried under snow or ice is picked up once conditions allow. If weather postpones a visit, we do a full cleanup of everything that built up on the next one.

Can technicians work with dogs in the yard?

We love our furry clients! Friendly dogs can stay outside. For everyone's safety, we ask that aggressive or overly excited dogs be kept indoors while we work.

Do I need to be home when you arrive?

No. Just make sure your gate is unlocked and we can get into the yard safely, and tell us about any entry instructions. We'll handle the rest.

How will I know you've been there?

We text you 10 to 30 minutes before we arrive and again when we're done, and we upload a photo of your closed gate before we leave.

How much does dog waste removal cost?

Pricing depends on the number of dogs, your yard size and how often we visit. Weekly service for a small yard with one or two dogs typically runs $23 to $28 per visit. Get your exact price in about a minute with our instant quote.

Awaiting confirmation: Spruce Scoop is confirming the $23 to $28 range above. Your instant quote shows your exact price.

How often can you come out?

We offer weekly, twice-weekly, biweekly and monthly visits, so you can pick the schedule that fits your dogs and your yard.

Is there a contract?

No. Service is month to month with no long-term contract. To cancel, just let us know at least 7 days before your next billing date.
